Berry Landcare

Berry Landcare was established in 2004 and operates as a group of 11 local worksites with local people as site coordinators and active participation from more than 100 volunteers. We enjoy significant community support for environmental initiatives and preserving the landscape’s integrity.

Berry Landcare works on both private and public land and undertakes joint projects with other community groups to address natural resource management issues. It has received awards for its work at catchment and local government levels.

Landcare can be best described as a movement of individuals, groups and organisations across Australia with a shared vision to restore, enhance and protect the natural environment in their local community through sustainable land management and conservation activities.

Landcare originated in Victoria in 1986, with farmers, landholders and conservationists coming together to respond to the impacts of soil erosion and salinity. Landcare became a national program in 1989 with bipartisan support from the Hawke Government, and the ‘Decade of Landcare’ was launched to bring together community, government, business and industry, to restore the landscape following 200 years of land degradation. Berry Landcare at Award Winning Boongaree Park

Berry Landcare

Join Berry Landcare for their monthly protection and improvement of the land around Boongaree Park. This Sunday you'll be meeting down on the oval near the creek  for weed control and plantings.

Everyone is welcome to come along and find out how landcare works, lend a hand and learn a thing or two about how to engage in stewardship of all that is precious .

Boongaree Park has been a immediate success and is well worth a visit to see nature play, supporting the health, wellbeing, and development of Australian children through outdoor play and learning, in action.

Make sure to bring water, a hat, gloves, sturdy shoes and sunscreen or clothing for shade.

Berry Landcare at David Berry Hospital

Berry Landcare

Come along and join Berry Landcare at one of their regular working bees to support the remnant coastal rainforest at David Berry Hospital.

This morning will honour Culture and Country  by incuding an Acknowlegement  of Country, a short history of the site and the forest with a walk through to understand all the love and labour that has gone into saving it. A short talk on weed control will then be given before we all get to work.

Saving this beautful and precious remaining rainforest has been an act of love in these past decades. It is under continual threat from weed growth and this get together is about tackling privet, a noxious and invasive weed...which simply means it is growing in the wrong place at the wrong time so out it goes.

Keeping this rainforest functional and beautiful benefits a myriad of wild creatures and provides a beautiful resource for those that use the facilities of David Berry Hospital's palliative care and rehabilitation services.

You can find out more about this beautiful forest here
You can find out about the recent work to secure David Berry Hopsital for ongoing public good here.

Make sure to bring water, a hat, gloves, sturdy shoes and sunscreen or clothing for shade.
