vedic storytime

Do you know ganesh from gayatri? Lakshmi from lakshmna?
The Vedic Stories are ancient tales of Superheroes and Super Villains. The epics texts are wild and wonderful and full of wisdom. The tales contain much intrigue and delight but also teach us, through myth and metphor, how the world works, and what our role can be within it.
Stories have always been my favourite part of teaching the Vedas - as all ages and all kinds of people learn best through stories.  Join me to hear some of the old favourites, and some lesser known stories from the epic texts.

Mindful Canoe Tour

A canoe tour that will gently rock you back to your natural state, surrounded by water, sky, bush and rock.

Enjoy a complete body and soul reset on a gentle, contemplative guided canoe trip with an emphasis on nature connection. Surrounded by towering sandstone cliffs, the Shoalhaven Gorge offers hidden pristine waterfalls and swimming holes, an abundance and array of wildlife, and is the most scenic flatwater paddling venue in Australia.

Your tour will involve expending a moderate level of energy while paddling, but having ample time for relaxing throughout the journey as we pause and reflect on the wonders around us. Your instructors will coach you in cultivating moment to moment awareness through the grounded activity of paddling with the aim of experiencing a magical moment: a congruence and oneness of body, boat, paddle and water. Unencumbered. Purposeful. Smooth.

No experience is required: you’ll get full support from qualified instructors. Those who are new to mindfulness will get the most out of this session. Especially marvellous in the depths of winter when we finish around sunset. A full day, at a slow pace – renew your spirit and be nourished in nature!

Shroud making workshop

A day of cloth and conversation. Join Michele for a contemplative and practical workshop to explore the tradition of shroud-making. Shrouds have played an important role in caring for the deceased for a very long time. The washing and wrapping of the body is often the last act of care given to a person before they are farewelled.

The day will consist of supported discussion and reflection around end-of-life care, give attention to grief, to celebration and to ‘going-away’ outfits. Working with natural materials, Michele will guide you through the planning and design of a simple shroud and provide hands-on sewing instruction, embellishments, embroidery and practical tips. Whether you wish to make your own shroud or one for a particular person or pet, this workshop will support you to create a bespoke cloth with intention and care.

We will begin the day with a stop at Conjola Cemetery for some reflective exercises in observation. From here, we’ll proceed to the Wandandian Community Hall for morning tea and begin the workshop.

Basic sewing materials are provided, and participants are invited to bring their own fabric/cloth. More information will be sent upon registration.

Michele and Yila Healing Trail welcomes your Pay It Forward donations to support Community in attending this and other events. Thank you.
